Scotland Edges Haiti at 2026 World Cup C
McGinn struck in the 28th minute to deliver all three points — and history — for the Scots, who claimed their first World Cup win in 36 years while simultaneously moving to the top of Group C. The result was sealed under the watch of Algerian match officials Mustapha Ghorbal, Abbes Akram Zerhouni and Mokrane Gourari.
Haiti — making their first World Cup appearance since 1974 — set up with Placide between the posts, protected by a back line of Arcus, Ade, Delcroix and Experience, with Deedson, Jacques, Bellegarde, Providence, Isidor and Pierrot operating ahead. The Haitians were dealt a blow midway through the second half as manager made changes: Casimir came on for Deedson (61'), Joseph replaced Isidor (76'), and Fortune stepped in for Providence in the 85th minute.
Scotland deployed a disciplined 4-2-3-1 from the outset — Gunn in goal, flanked by Hickey, Robertson, Grant Hanley and Jack Hendry in defence, with McTominay and Ferguson anchoring midfield, and Doak, McGinn and Adams providing creativity behind lone striker Shankland. The Scots' bench was called upon heavily in the final quarter of the game: Patterson replaced Hickey and Christie came on for Doak — both in the 75th minute — alongside Dykes taking Adams' place. Curtis and McLean then entered for McGinn and Shankland respectively in the 83rd minute to shore up the lead.
Discipline proved a concern for both sides. Bellegarde earned a yellow card for Haiti in the 39th minute, while Scotland contributed three bookings of their own: Aaron Hickey was cautioned in the 46th minute, Curtis in the first minute of stoppage time, and Kenny McLean in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
The victory catapults Scotland above both Brazil and Morocco — who drew 1-1 in their earlier Group C fixture — with the Scots next facing Morocco on June 19, also in Boston, before a final group clash with Brazil on June 24 in Miami.
